Help Dave Haskins & Dave Perras Rebuild Their Home After Years of Hardship

For more than 25 years, I’ve had the honor of calling Dave Haskins one of my closest friends. He’s someone who has spent his life helping others through his corporate work, his coaching, and simply through the way he shows up for people.
Now, he and his housemate and best friend, Dave Perras, need help in a way they never imagined. They’ve lived in their Roswell home since 2004, supporting each other through some of life’s hardest chapters.

A Long Journey of Health Challenges;
In 2009, Dave Perras was in a serious accident that left him permanently disabled. In 2017, he was diagnosed with stage 4 internal cancer, and in 2020, the cancer spread to his brain — five tumors, multiple rounds of brain radiation, and nearly six years of treatment and his insurance coverage was raised to over 12,000 per year. David Haskins insurance coverage is now approximately $8,500 per year.
He now receives Medicare, which helps, but it doesn’t cover the full financial and daily impact of disability, cancer, and cognitive decline. Through all of this, Dave Haskins has been his primary support system — emotionally, practically, and financially.
And then, just when they were already stretched thin, disaster struck.

April 23, 2022 — A 20,000‑Pound Tree Fell on Their Home

While they were away, a 100‑foot pine tree weighing nearly 20,000 pounds crashed across the entire length of their home. It struck the house five times, causing nearly $150,000 in damages including;

Structural damage throughout the entire house,
Structural shift of the house on its foundation,

Shifting of the attic roof ridges and separation of roof support braces and ties,
Leaning walls above 8 feet,

Warped door frames and
garage foundation broken in half,
Garage wall driven six inches into the ground,

Cracked plumbing lines and
Water leaks throughout the home

The Insurance Battle

For a full year, State Farm denied almost everything except the roof shingles and water damage in 2 rooms — despite their own inspectors documenting the damage.

State Farm refused to pay for structural repairs, foundation work, plumbing damage, wall repairs or temporary housing.

With nowhere else to turn, both cashed out their retirements with the expectation that State Farm would cover the repairs because during the year delay before State Farm refused to pay for structural damages, they also refused to consider any additional damages and refused to send out someone to examine the additional structural damage and they never came back out over the subsequent 4 years. The retirement accounts were meant to cover future cancer treatment and medical bills. They’ve been living among boxes, exposed ceilings, damaged walls, and unfinished construction for nearly four years.

⚖️ A Jury Ruled Against State Farm — But It Wasn’t Enough

A federal jury found State Farm liable for violating the policy but because of false testimony in the trial, the jury awarded around 10% of the structural damage. Furthermore, State Farm’s last witness perjured themselves when testifying the house was fully repaired, despite knowing all work stopped in July 2022 and having examined it in 2025.

To this day, they’ve paid only about 10% of the total damage.

Why This Matters Now

After everything he has endured — disability, cancer, brain tumors, radiation — Dave Perras fears he won’t live long enough to see their home repaired.

And Dave Haskins, who has been his caregiver and anchor through all of it, recently lost his job in a restructuring.

They are out of savings. Out of retirement funds. Out of options, except they had notified the Fulton District attorney’s Office on September 22, 2025 regarding the perjury and again sought a follow up from them on February 12, 2026, about State Farm’s involvement with their witness that perjured his entire testimony on behalf of State Farm and the loss of a full award by the Jury. Fulton County’s District Attorney to this day has failed to respond. A felony trial of those involved in the perjury may take another few years to come to trial. State Farm and the attorney of Dave Haskins and Dave Perras refused to report to the court the evidence of perjury.
