2020 was a year of suffering and struggle for so many. On December 19, 2020 our family experienced the devastating effects of COVID-19. Dave Holscher was admitted into South Buffalo Mercy Hospital in the literal fight for his life. In addition to COVID-19 Dave was also diagnosed with pneumonia which resulted in his placement on high pressure oxygen. On Christmas Eve it was determined that Dave was additionally suffering from a life threatening blood clot in his right leg. That same evening he underwent emergency surgery to remove the blood clot. A second procedure was needed on Christmas Day on the same leg. The following week a third procedure was necessitated. Dave had a 50% chance of losing his leg due to the clot. The clot caused a tremendous amount of damage to Dave’s leg and foot. He continues to face the possibility of partial amputation of his right foot and/or leg. Dave was released from the hospital into the care of his wife and children on 1/13/21. Dave has a visiting nurse at his home 3 times per week as well as physical and occupational therapy. He continues to recover from the ravaging effects of this horrible virus.
Before this virus attacked Dave he was a very healthy man free from any pre-existing conditions that have been identified complications with COVID-19 . For nearly 15 years he has worked full time as a NYS Correctional Officer. He lives with his wife Anna of 27 years and their three children Stephanie, David and Erica. Everyone who knows Dave knows that he would go above and beyond to help others. He is an amazing, loving , caring husband, father, son, brother, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, nephew, cousin and friend. Dave is also well known in his community as he dedicated 10+ years coaching Evans Youth Softball as well.
Dave is now facing a lengthy recovery process of regaining his strength while preparing for the next phase of his medical treatment to address the damage to his leg and foot. The extended amount of time that he has been and will be on medical leave from his job will result in reduced income for Dave and his family. We are asking for your help and support as Dave faces this awful battle against the lasting impact of COVID-19. Will you please donate today and join team Dave?
