Hi, my name is Dave, and I’m reaching out for help during one of the hardest and scariest times of my life.

This all started with a 12-day fever that doctors couldn’t explain. It wasn’t the flu, it wasn’t COVID, and nothing was showing up clearly at first. As my symptoms got worse, the doctors feared it was cancer.

After multiple MRIs and tests, doctors found a 4-inch mass in my colon in the pelvic area, though they couldn’t immediately determine what it was. The infection from that mass had already spread and formed a second abscess on my liver. Because of the mass’s location, they couldn’t safely biopsy the one on my colon. After surgery, I was finally told it was severe diverticulitis, and that the infection had spread through about three-quarters of my liver. Part of my colon had to be removed, and the liver abscess now requires long-term treatment, possible additional surgery, and careful monitoring.

I’ve already been unable to work for five weeks, and doctors expect I’ll be out for at least another four. I own my own flooring company — and if I’m not working, I don’t get paid. Between hospital stays, medical bills, medications, and basic living expenses, the financial burden has become overwhelming.
