I'm setting up this GoFundMe to help my friend, Dave Griffin, a lifelong Jones County resident and proud mechanic, get a promising stroke treatment that could dramatically improve his recovery.
About Dave: Dave is 63. He's lived in Jones County his whole life and spent over 20 years doing mechanical work - a hardworking man who's always been the first to help a neighbor.
What happened: On July 13, 2024, Dave suffered a stroke. He spent a month at Piedmont Medical Center in Macon, then two to three months at Baldwin Atrium for intensive care. After returning home, he completed three months of in-home therapy and then Baldwin outpatient therapy for speech, physical, and occupational therapy. Dave has made progress but remains limited by the lasting effects of the stroke.
Why we're asking: Insurance covered the immediate hospital and rehab care, but Dave is on a fixed income and cannot afford a specialized treatment he and his family believe could help: the perispinal/shot therapy offered through the Stroke Breakthrough/Institute of Neurological Recovery. The clinic's consultation fee and injections add up, and we need to raise funds for at least three injections plus associated travel, lodging, and follow-up. We estimate needing $30,000 to cover treatment and traveling expenses.
How the money will be used:
• Clinic consultations and injections (treatment)
• Travel and lodging to the clinic (a caregiver will accompany Dave)
• Local therapy and follow-up appointments not covered by insurance
• Any remaining funds will go toward Dave's recovery needs (equipment, therapy, living costs while he focuses on treatment)
Why this matters: Dave is a dedicated uncle and friend who has given decades of hard work to our community. This treatment may improve his speech, mobility, and independence.
Your donation — of any size — will go directly to help him get the care he needs.
Transparency & updates: We will post receipts and updates about appointments and how funds are spent. If you prefer to donate in another way or have questions, please message me directly.
Thank you for considering a donation - and for sharing this campaign. Every share helps us reach people who can help get Dave the treatment he needs.
