Help Dave furnish his first apartment since 2015
Donation protected
Hi all,
I am moving into a HUD 62+ subsidized 1-bedroom apartment on September 1. The rent is only about 30% of my income, which right now is just from Social Security. I feel fortunate to have found this apartment. It's the first apartment I've had since 2015! That being the case, I need to buy furniture and other necessities for this apartment, since I've been living in someone's home in a furnished room. The only possessions I currently have other than clothes are my books!
I'm hoping to be able to get a bed, sheets, blankets, a chair or two, perhaps a kitchen table and utensils, rice cooker, microwave, a couple of lamps, and a bookcase or two would be nice for the books I use for research most often. I do not need or want a TV. Since I really haven't bought furniture in about 10 years, I'm not even sure what current furniture prices are like, but I'm requesting a maximum of $1,000 in donations to get me going.
Please think of this as a housewarming donation or gift. I'll be on a tight budget with only my Social Security, although I do hope to receive more copyediting or other types of remote work or even a part-time outside job to supplement the SS, although, as we know, this is harder when you're over a certain age.
Anyway, I hope you can help me by contributing to this "furniture and appliance" fund for the first apartment I've had in so long. I would really appreciate it!
Thank you so much, and feel free to share this around. I'll be eternally grateful.
