Following a tragic car accident that left him in a coma, we share with heavy hearts that our beloved Mr. Darryl has left us. Despite every hope, he could not return to us.

Darryl Gent stood as a pillar in our community. Outside the Institute, he poured his heart into his family, cherishing his seven children, especially his youngest, baby Dariana, only four months old. As the provider, protector, and heartbeat of his loved ones, in his absence, the weight of this tragedy—both emotional and financial—is heavy.

As his family begins to find their way through this loss, our hearts and efforts turn to supporting his partner and children as they face the difficult road ahead.

A Pillar of Our Community

Mr. Darryl served for years as the Community Arts Outreach Coordinator at the Institute of Music for Children in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Yet to us, he was so much more. A passionate advocate for the community and a steadfast believer in the power of the arts, he left a lasting mark on countless lives through his kindness and energy.

He was a mentor, a youth advocate, a logistics and operations leader, and a constant source of encouragement for students and families alike. His unwavering faith in arts education and deep devotion to this community shaped so many lives. Wherever he went, his energy, kindness, and generous spirit filled the room.

The weight of this loss is immense. For someone who never stopped moving and devoted his life to others, his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled for all who knew and loved him.
