If you live or lived in Hopkinsville, KY, then you know Darryl Cunningham. From humble beginnings to First City Bank and then to a long career in insurance, eventually opening up his own business -Cunningham Insurance, Darryl is well-known and well-loved in his community.

A man who always gave of himself to his friends and customers (once even driving all the way to Saint Louis to pick up a customer who was having problems getting home); he was tireless in his quest to simply be there for others. He went even further for his family, giving of himself whenever they needed him.

A few months back, he had a very sudden and severe stroke in his sleep. He woke up, said he felt strange, and within 20 minutes, was unconscious. After a 10-day stay at Saint Thomas in Nashville (where his family was told he would never be the same), he was transferred to Christian Health Center in Hopkinsville to begin therapy. Setback after setback (PEG tube problems, an upper-respiratory illness) delayed treatment even further.

His wife Sandra never left his side. She slept in a chair 100 days in a row during his treatment and rehab stay.

Sadly enough, the very career he excelled in let him down. His insurance gave him 100 days, and that was it. The rest of all expenses (which has exceeded the 100 days) is up to the family.

Today, he comes home. He is in a wheelchair and still has great difficulty speaking. He can't use the right side of his body very well.

He's going to need home health care and we need drastic changes to the house: a walk-in/seated shower, hospital bed, lifter to get him from the bed to the wheelchair, hand-rails in the house for stairs; it's a lot for the family to handle.

We are asking for help with expenses for Darryl; to have others help him the way he helped them.
