Help Darrin Grogan Battle Stage 4 Melanoma

To my friends, family, and the entire gymnastics community:
My name is Chris Rippy, and gymnastics has been a cornerstone of my life — as a competitive gymnast, a coach for both men’s and women’s gymnastics, a nationally and internationally rated judge, and now, as a proud “gym dad.”
One of the most rewarding aspects of the gymnastics community is its people, and no one exemplifies this more than my dear friend, Darrin Grogan of Paragould, Arkansas.
In June 2024, Darrin was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma. Since then, he has undergone multiple rounds of immunotherapy and will soon be traveling to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, for additional testing and treatment under the care of his oncologist.
For those who haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Darrin, he’s a “larger-than-life” figure in every sense. For over 40 years, he has been a cornerstone of the gymnastics world as both a men’s and women’s coach at Champions Gymnastics in Paragould, Arkansas, owned by his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sharon Grogan.
He is lovingly known as “Uncle Darrin” to countless athletes, including my daughter Emily. His infectious enthusiasm, unshakable positivity, and legendary bear hugs have left a lasting impression on everyone he meets.
Beyond gymnastics, Darrin has also served his community as a firefighter in Jonesboro, Arkansas, for nearly 30 years, earning the respect and love of his brothers and sisters in uniform.
Darrin lives by the principle of “I’m Third” — putting God first, others second, and himself third. Rarely do we have the chance to support someone who has given so selflessly to so many. Now is that time.
While Darrin’s health insurance covers much of his treatment, the out-of-pocket expenses for travel, lodging, and other necessities are significant. Our goal is to raise $20,000 to help ease the financial burden so Darrin can focus on his recovery.
We humbly ask for your support. Whether you’re a friend, family member, or part of the gymnastics community, please consider contributing to help Darrin in his fight against this terrible disease. Every dollar makes a difference, and every share of this campaign helps spread the word.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and prayers for Darrin and his family.
Sincerely,
Chris Rippy
