I am a family friend of Darren and Jessica. They are both hard working , front line community supporters in their professions busy raising four great kids. Darren was diagnosed with a very rare autoimmune disease in the summer of 2018 called Aplastic Anemia where the immune system attacks his bone marrow which directly affects his blood production. This is a very serious and life threatening condition that has to be treated with expensive and potent medicine . Darren powered his way through the treatment and tried hard to get back to health, it can take more than a year to know if the treatment is successful . The family was hopeful for a recovery and sadly Darren has relapsed. Because of how serious his condition is he has had weekly blood monitoring since being diagnosed and when his blood levels plummeted this summer he was put back on the strong meds with the hopes of reversing the decline. Now with his white cells and platelets dangerously low again he is unable to work at this time. He is on the verge of needing a blood transfusion if his levels don’t turn around within the next couple of days and if his counts don’t trend up he may need to go through another round of ATG therapy . Last resort treatment would be a bone marrow transplant. We are praying it turns around.The financial pressure for a young family with bills that don’t stop just because of a medical emergency is huge. Jess is an aid in the school district supporting children with learning challenges and Darren compassionately worked with the homeless and addicted in our community in his career , it’s our turn to compassionately support him and his dear family and ease his stress and burden from loss of income and help him focus solely on winning this battle. Every dollar helps .
