My name is Daniel and I am raising money to help my friend Darnell with basic life expenses through a legal battle with an employer trying to refuse his workers comp.

He was injured in a truck accident while working his sanitation job. Their argument is that they don't owe him because he hadn't made it into the union yet when he was injured and then sometimes also claiming he never worked there, which tax documents and pay stubs clearly show is false. (If you think this makes no sense and sounds illegal, you are correct and his lawyer agrees).

As is often the case with injury and disability injustice, him taking any type of employment whatsoever until the resolution of the case will endanger his payout.

All of this is, frankly, just the tip of the iceberg but for the sake of dignity and privacy the only thing else I'll say is that his housing is currently mostly covered and he receives some food assistance (which was delayed this month for administrative reasons), so your donations of any size will go very far in helping him to make sure he has the basic necessities to get through each day with consistent nutritious food, clean clothing, transportation, and other incidental expenses that come up for each of us in our lives that we don't think twice about being able to cover.

We are asking for anything up to 12K to help him get through September or even October if they continue with delaying tactics but even 2K would help greatly. He does not currently have a bank account so I will be collecting the money and sending to his cashapp as the app allows and depending on donations and local account minimum requirements, he may set one up, in which case I would have transfers go directly to him.

He has no other support network and I have already given more than what I make in a month and am trying hard to overcome my conditioning and ask for help so that I myself don't become someone who has to ask my own support network for help. I just want my friend of over a decade whom I met in NYC to be okay. I will not let someone I have a close relationship with go without food while I have anything to give and I don't do "loans" to friends (only giving) for the sake of my heart and haven't in 18 years as an adult. I will not recoup anything from this fund, every single dollar you give (beyond platform fees out of my control) will go directly to Darnell and any contributor of more than $50 who wants to audit me may ask for screenshots of the campaign totals and screenshots of my cashapp transfers to him since receiving money from GoFundMe. I just ask that you give me a week or two to catch up during my extremely busy summer.

True giving, I believe, should be an act of self love and sustainability as well and I have exhausted my ability for the next few months.
