Help Dario and Naomi search for a better life.

Hey everyone!!! We’ve been lucky enough to spend the past month volunteering with two incredible people - Dario and Naomi. Living with them over the days has inspired us to set up this page to help them in any way we can, and we hope you feel the same after reading their story. We thought it better if you were to hear it from them personally, so this is their story that Dario has written…

He must have gone crazy, their faces said when I told them my idea. You are not a young man anymore, and your daughter has school to attend. She must go to university, she must make something out of this life she has been given. It’s too dangerous, it’s too risky. She is just a girl… you can’t afford to do something like this. When the day to leave arrived, only my mother and sister knew, so we hugged them goodbye, picked up our backpacks, and left our before life - my mother’s home in Colombia. Off we go, to travel south America. Why would a father make such a decision? Why would you leave your lifestyle? What are you doing all of this for? My name is Dario. From 14 years old I have worked really hard, I really wanted a career so I studied in university. I had a wife, and a beautiful girl - Naomi. I had so many different types of jobs, but I was not happy… every day it felt like my life was at a dead end. Then, my wife died, and it was a big shake for my daughter Naomi and I. It completely de-railed my life, I gave up university, nothing made sense anymore. I worked hours and hours every day to pay the bills, and I missed Naomi - I wished to spend time with her but I had obligations so we could survive. Sometimes we could read a book, or do some homework, but eventually everything became monotonous. People deserve a beautiful life, but we are all waiting for something to happen to us to make things better in the future, when all we have is the present and our power to change things. I did not want to keep waiting for the future, so we took the road. Naomi, my daughter, is 15 years old and has been travelling with me for one and a half years. She is a smart girl, she is very talented and is an incredible artist. I get the chance now to spend my days with her, we can bake cakes, take walks, read books and talk. One day, she will grow up and take her own path - and I hope I will have showed her what life can be. But, we need your support, of course. People we have met on our travels have told us that sometimes people receive donations on here, and any amount would go a really long way. So please, if you are able to do so, it would really help us to continue our search for a better life. These are not flat mountains, they are rocky and they are challenging, and to get to the top will be difficult. But when we are at the top, the sight will be fresh and beautiful. This is our story, and thank you for taking the time to read this.
