Help Dario and his family start a new life

Donation protected
Dario arrived here a little over a year ago from Ecuador and worked this last season at Indian Line Farm where he became an important and treasured part of the crew. He is respected by his coworkers and has proven himself to be a great employee and leader.

Dario has been trying to get his partner (Gabriela) and 2-year-old daughter (Dafne) and his brother-in-law to the US for the last three months. As the journey is an arduous one for anyone, it is especially difficult for women and children. The journey is also extremely expensive as migrants pay in the range of $5,000-$10,000 per person to "coyotes" (guides) to get them to the border and across safely. Many do not succeed and end up back in their home countries.

The trip was made more difficult as they waited in Mexico City for 2 months for what's called a CPBOne appointment which would expedite their entry and begin the necessary paperwork for seeking political asylum. As January 20th loomed closer, they decided to risk going directly to the border as it seemed clear any current border laws would be changed immediately when Trump is sworn in. En route, they were detained by Mexican immigration officials, and upon release, they were kidnapped by the ubiquitous individuals that prey upon vulnerable migrants and were held captive until Dario came up with $3,500 for each of them—$10,500 in total.

Finally, on Christmas Eve, they arrived at the border and were taken into custody by US immigration officials. Gabriela and Dafne were then told they could fly to be reunited with Dario. They arrived safely in Massachusetts the day after Christmas. Dario's brother-in-law is still waiting in detention.

Dario is now carrying a heavy load of debt (about $22,000) and I would like to help lighten the load. Dario is working this winter with a local building contractor and plans to return to work at Indian Line Farm for the 2025 season. He is an incredibly hard worker, very kind and quick to keep us all laughing. He deserves our help.

I hope that the Indian Line Farm community will be as generous as they can.
