Help Darci get housing.

I met my dear friend Darci over three years ago in my chronic illness support group, where she's shared her life with Scoliosis that went untreated in childhood (no one took her to a single doctor's appointment until she was 17!), worsening Degenerative Disc Disease, and mental health problems. Since she's also in California, I've been able to spend some time visiting her, which I enjoyed every minute of. From the start, I knew she was someone I'd love; she's cool, fun and funny, full of great stories and life experiences, and she honestly cares deeply for those around her. She probably isn't aware of it, but she's one of the most loved people in my group - she's always there to support others, whether with words, actions, or a big ol pot of her homemade albondigas soup. She's also one of the strongest and hardest working people I've ever known, and she does it while suffering with numerous diagnoses which leave her with incredible pain, anxiety/depression, and exhaustion. She's worked her butt off caring for others worse off, including disabled vets and the elderly, but her own health issues have forced her to find new work, so she was squeaking by driving for Lyft and even selling her plasma. All her pay went into basic needs - housing, car, food - and ridiculous medical expenses, with none left over to put aside for a day even more rainy than usual; you can't save money when your own body is a lemon.
And now, after eight years of being a model tenant, her landlords are kicking her out so they can charge even more for her tiny place, and they've sadly got the law on their side. She's had to sell most of her stuff that she's collected over a lifetime, but still can't afford first & last month's rent and security deposit for a new place, and even if she did, her disabilities leave her physically unable to move what little stuff she has left. She works more than 40 hours a week, and if hard work were really all you need to succeed in America, she'd be living in a mansion, and getting all the medicines, surgeries, and other treatments she needs without having to give up food, fun, or any type of real life. And if taking excellent care of yourself was all you need to stay healthy, she'd never need a day off, or have all the expenses caused by her illnesses. She does everything we're told will lead to a good life, but our insane healthcare system and minimum wage have left her anguished, in pain, and facing homelessness.
So, since her hard work and care aren't enough to keep her housed and healthy, I'm asking you to help, by contributing what you can to keep her from literally dying on the streets. Every little bit helps, and could buy her a meal, a month's rent, or medicine. I'm doing this for her, because after all the care she gives to others, she has little left to spare for herself. Trust me, it's going to an exemplary, hard working woman, who puts herself last despite her own needs. Every penny will be gratefully appreciated, and will get heartfelt thanks and good vibes, not just from herself, but from me as well, and all those who love her.
My deepest thanks,
Laura.
