Help Darcy and her family through a tough time with cancer

Donation protected
As many of you may know, Darcy got what's likely the toughest news of her life on Wednesday, May 29th. She received a breast cancer diagnosis after having a biopsy done on a suspicious lump.

In the time since, Darcy and her family's life has been a whirlwind of figuring out next steps, doctors visits, developing a treatment plan, and just trying to process this news and what it means for them.

After many weeks of further consulting with her medical team, another biopsy, and other testing, Darcy has settled on having a double mastectomy. She will be going into surgery on the 22nd of August, where they will do the procedure and at that time check her lymph nodes to see if the cancer has traveled. After the surgery she will know if she needs radiation or chemo. Then, she will be going through an eight week recovery before being able to fully return to work.

Where the Schwerins can really use some help is getting through the financial hurdles that lay ahead. They will also need lots of support from our local community with anything from meals (sign up to bring a meal to the Schwerins here) to encouraging words to supporting Darcy's business, and everything in between.

Of course with something like this, medical bills are going to become rather significant, traveling to Duluth, and Darcy is self-employed. Her greatest concern during this time is that she will experience significant loss of income during her recovery and the business depends on her, and she simply will not be able to bring in revenue for a couple of months.

Money is the last thing they should be worrying about in a time like this, but unfortunately that is the way these things go. Any way that you can offer support, no matter how big or small, means so much to the Schwerin family. We all know they pay it forward and help out others in need, so here's to helping them in what lies ahead!
