Help Us Fight Darby's Brain Cancer

Darby Trainor is our daughter.  Darby and our family are asking for your support in fighting her brain cancer and all pediatric brain cancer.  Darby is a bright, beautiful 17 year old.  In the 11th grade, she enjoys being part of theater and being social with her friends. She is also a beginning guitar and piano player where she is self-taught, and she loves playing music for other people.  She loves her family; she stands up for what she believes in; and she has a good heart. Around mid-February, Darby started having headaches which we treated at home.  As it got worse, we thought it may be a bad sinus or allergy problem, so we went to the doctor. She was medicated for the headaches, but it did not give her much relief.  On April 6, she woke up with barely any motor skills, and we thought she was having a seizure.  We rushed her to the ER, and, after a long day of tests, we were informed that she had a large tumor on her brain and needed immediate emergency surgery to remove it.  On April 7, she had her first surgery.  On April 8, she was rushed back into surgery because swelling was still causing too much pressure on her brain.  During this second surgery, they were able to remove a little more of the tumor.  On April 22, Darby’s skullcap was replaced, and this was the time that we learned that the tumor was malignant.  On May 1, we were allowed to take Darby home.  This is where we will continue our fight as Darby starts intensive treatment on May 21.  Current Situation:Diagnosis:  High grade Glioma.Treatment:  Chemotherapy and radiation concurrently for 6 weeks then 4 week break, then resume. Family Needs:  Over the past month, friends and family have asked how they can help to which we have not known how to answer, as we have been trying to process all of this.  We have decided to make this page to inform everyone on how Darby is doing and to ask for support in the coming weeks and months.  Our immediate expenses are:  transportation costs, as Darby has an appointment, therapy or treatment almost every day;  Darby has to have a constant caregiver at this time, so I am unable to return to work; and we are concerned about any other unexpected costs or issues that may arise with her twin brothers or our family as we fight this with Darby.  Darby wakes up every day ready to take this thing on and to move forward.  Her smile and positive attitude is enough to give everyone the right amount of strength to conquer this! We will keep you updated on Darby’s progress here.  Any support or words of encouragement are greatly appreciated!  Leslie, Danny and all of our extended family
