  • UPDATE: December 25, 2024...
  • Merry Christmas everyone. Thank you all so much for all of your kindness, generosity, and compassion over the last 3 months. I could never thank you all enough. As of this week I am in a temporary FEMA unit. As nice as it is to have power and water now, it is not so great to be a 20 minute drive away from my family, property, and home town for the first time ever over the holidays. Being alone with no family around today has been pretty hard...I had no idea I was going to have to move this far away. I sure wasn't ready, and especially considering that I've moved from one flood plain to another. This FEMA park is set up where another washed away during the flood. My PTSD is at an all-time high with the green, red, and yellow lights on the wall letting us know the status of the sprinklers and alarm system, the doors that we can't open inside and outside our unit, the weather radio that we're supposed to leave on at all times, and the paperwork telling us to have an escape plan in place in case of a another flood... I am now about 100 feet from the waterway that washed this location out 12 weeks ago. I don't understand why they would put flood victims right back into a flood zone? I feel totally displaced and even though I do have a place to stay right now, I do not feel it is safe here, it is not my home, it is not my hometown, it is not where I lived, it is not where I want to be. If I'm going to have to be in a flood plain I would prefer to be on my own floodplain. Please help me to either rebuild a home on my property or buy another piece of property to build a home on. I am so grateful for all the help I have gotten so far, and I will be so thankful for all help I get in the future. Happy New Year and God bless you all. I pray that I am able to be in a better place soon!❤️

  • Hi, I'm Dara Cody. The empty place at the end of the walkway is where my home used to sit. I raised my children there as well as several other children for some time through the years. I loved my home. I recently had an adjuster cancel my home insurance because I needed to fix some rails on the porch. I clearly didn't get them fixed in time for Hurricane Helene and the flood that ensued afterwards. It just swept away everything I had as well as countless others that have lost their homes and even more importantly all of those that have lost their lives or loved ones. If anyone can offer me any help it would be greatly appreciated and if not please consider donating to the hurricane Helene Relief Fund to help someone... we are all desperately struggling just to get through this disaster here. Thank you so much to all of you-for your time, your thoughts, your prayers, the outpouring of love and consideration God bless you all❤️ https://youtu.be/AI92AJo19FM?si=UVIlYdLjC0zeCONb
