Help DAP Bridge the Gap!!

Hi, my name is Yolanda Pope, Founder and Executive Director of DAP Services & Resources. Through our Senior Stability Program, we work to prevent homelessness and improve quality of life for older adults and medically vulnerable individuals in our community.

Today, we are launching the Senior Stability Scholarship Fund and we are hoping to raise $10,200 in 12 days to support our very first scholarship recipient.

Meet Our First Recipient.

Our first recipient is an older adult with debilitating health issues. He is currently placed at Baldwin House through a temporary respite stay. Like many seniors in Michigan, he lives on a very limited fixed income.

Baldwin House has become the first place in a long time where he feels truly safe, stable, and supported. His health and overall well-being have improved, and we are working to do everything we can to assist him remain here.

The Problem…

The barrier is financial.

Based on his income, he cannot afford the full cost required to remain at Baldwin House long-term. The gap is approximately:

$10,000 per yer. This would allow him to have $150 each month for other expenses.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to cover the gap for one full year, allowing him to remain housed and stable while we work closely other agencies to develop a appropriate long-term solution.

How the Scholarship Will Work?

If we successfully raise the full amount, the scholarship funds will be applied toward the housing cost to secure his placement.

The client will still pay the portion he is responsible for monthly.

Once we are within 90 days of scholarship funds being exhausted, DAP will work collaboratively with the client and other agencies to identify and transition into his new long term housing environment.

If the client’s health condition changes and he is no longer able to remain at Baldwin House before the year ends, any unused funds will be used to support another senior through the Senior Stability Scholarship Fund.

Why is this important?

Too many seniors fall into the gap between what they can afford and what safe housing costs. When that gap isn’t filled, seniors are forced into unsafe living conditions, repeated placement disruptions, shelters, or crisis-level hospital stays.

This scholarship fund is about dignity.

It’s about stability.

And it’s about keeping seniors housed before they fall into crisis.
