Hello everyone,
My name is Danya, a Jamaican native, living in Bronx, NY. The island of Jamaica was recently devastated when Category 5 Hurricane Melissa made landfall on Tuesday, October 28, leaving death and destruction in her wake. I am here, humbly, seeking your help in restoring my small community of Bird Mountain, located in Westmoreland, Jamaica, one of the areas greatly impacted by the hurricane.
Bird Mountain is a small rural community with a population of less than 150 people, with many of the home structures built from board and zinc. Before the worst of the hurricane hit, its strong wind had already destroyed many of the houses, with many of its residents seeking shelter in the community's one and only church. Since then, many homes have been swept away, and the church structure damaged, forcing residents to seek shelter where it was safe.
The residents of Bird Mountain are resilient, kind, wonderful people that look out for strangers and friends alike. They are dependent on farming and livestock for their livelihood and, with no money or resources to rebuild their homes, they need your support.
I am raising funds to help rebuild my community Bird Mountain, and restore its residents back to a place where they feel safe and cared for.
We appreciate any donation you are able to give financially. If you are not able to give financially, donations of food, supplies, toiletries, etc. are greatly appreciated. I will be traveling to Jamaica to personally distribute aid and assist with rebuilding efforts.
Thank you for your generosity, the people of Bird Mountain are grateful for the support.
