In the early hours of Tuesday morning (April 8th), my cat Dante woke my family and me with loud growling and pacing, clearly in distress. We called every nearby emergency vet, but they relayed to us they were all at capacity. We had no choice but to wait through the night, watching him struggle in pain until a local clinic could see him in the morning.
Dante was diagnosed with a urinary blockage due to crystals in his urine, which is a dangerous, life-threatening condition in male cats. The vet recommended hospitalizing him from Tuesday, April 8th through Thursday, April 10th for intensive care and monitoring. The estimated cost was over $6,000.
We couldn’t afford that, but we were able to approve a reduced treatment plan. They unblocked him, administered pain relief and fluids, and discharged him the same day. That visit alone cost $1,698. His follow up labs on Thursday, April 10th cost us an additional $280 adding up to $1,978 in total, which exhausted our remaining funds, external bills and rent considered.
He’s now recovering at home under our close watch. Unfortunately, his kidneys were strained by the blockage. His creatinine levels are dangerously high, and though he’s fighting hard, he still needs supportive care. The vet recommended daily IV fluids to help his kidneys recover, but we simply can’t afford that. We’ve reached the limit of what we can do on our own.
We’re asking for help raising $600 to cover:
-Follow-up labs and checkups
-Subcutaneous fluids to support kidney recovery
-His prescribed urinary diet to prevent another blockage
Dante is doing his best to pull through. He’s affectionate, still curious, and trying to be strong even when it’s hard. We just need a little help to get him the care he deserves.
Anything you can give and sharing this campaign helps us and him more than you know. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
