Over the past year, while doing my nightly Ragu Wagon rounds—a small community effort I started to bring food and supplies to dogs belonging to people experiencing homelessness—I met two incredible dogs named Goku and Chewy and their owner, Dante. Goku is a male husky mix with bright blue eyes, and Chewy is a female long-haired Malinois. They are about one year old and closely bonded.
Over time they became regular stops during my rounds, and I got to know Dante as well. He had been living out of his vehicle with them, doing his best to care for them despite difficult circumstances. It was always clear how much he loves these dogs. They are friendly, social, and full of life.
Recently, things took a difficult turn. Dante lost his vehicle, which had been the only shelter for him and the dogs. Around the same time he injured his hand and is now dealing with a broken dominant hand, making it much harder for him to work or regain stability.
Recognizing he could not properly care for them under these circumstances, Dante made the incredibly difficult decision to ask for help so Goku and Chewy can be temporarily cared for while he works to stabilize his life. I am currently working to find a foster home that can keep them together, while also helping Dante access medical care, transportation, and other resources.
This fundraiser is meant to support both Dante and his dogs during this transition, with the goal of helping them eventually be reunited once he is back on his feet.
Funds raised will help cover immediate needs including care for Goku and Chewy such as dog food, supplies, veterinary care if needed, and support for temporary foster placement. Donations will also help Dante access medical care for his broken hand and assist with basic stabilization resources like transportation, temporary lodging, or help securing a vehicle so he can return to work.
The goal is to provide a short-term safety net so Dante can focus on healing and rebuilding stability while knowing his dogs are safe and cared for.
Thank you for taking the time to read their story. Asking for help is never easy, especially when it involves the animals you love most. Dante reached out because he wants to do right by Goku and Chewy during a time when circumstances made that impossible on his own.
If you’re able to donate, your support will help provide care and stability during this transition. And if donating isn’t possible, sharing this fundraiser can be just as powerful. The right person seeing their story could lead to a foster home, job opportunity, medical help, or other resources that could change everything for them.
Thank you for caring, sharing, and being part of a community that shows up when both people and animals need it most.
