Help Danny Recover from Apartment Flood Costs

Donation protected

Hey everyone, my name is Danny Purcell, and I never thought I’d be writing something like this, but I’m in a financial emergency and honestly a bit embarrassed to even post this.

Long story short—I accidentally flooded my apartment. And not just mine… two apartments below me too. Yeah, big yikes.

Here’s what happened:
Our community laundry room was shut down because homeless folks kept breaking in to use it for drugs and other things. So, trying to save money, I bought a portable washer and dryer instead of going to a laundromat. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Well, after doing a few loads one Friday, I decided to go grab a bite to eat. Totally forgot the washer was still hooked up to my sink, which flooded into my place, the one below, and even the one below that.

The fire department had to break into my apartment just to stop the flooding, which added more costs. Then there were hotel fees for the affected tenants, replacing wallpaper and drywall, and even some personal items that got damaged.

Now I’m stuck with a $5,300 bill listed in my rent portal under “Maintenance Costs.” I’m still waiting for an itemized breakdown, and I’ll update this page as soon as I have it. I do have a bunch of charges listed in my portal and I have that in screenshots above, they just aren’t very specific. But from what I know, it covers all the damage repairs, fire department costs, and hotel stays for my neighbors.

I’ve tried asking about a payment plan, but even if I get one, I’m not sure I can swing another $500 a month on top of rent, my car payment, school debt, and everything else. I live paycheck to paycheck already—honestly, I never graduated from Ramen noodles even after college. My likely option is to get a private personal loan.

I take full responsibility for this and I’ll find a way to pay this (eventually). I know this was my fault. But right now, I could really use some help lessening the blow.

Even $5 makes a difference more than you know. And if you can’t donate, just sharing this would mean the world to me.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of the damage because I didn’t even think about it at the time. I’m figuring this out on my own and still trying to wrap my head around everything.

The funds donated will go directly to paying back these maintenance costs. I will immediately close donations the minute I reach the total goal of 5800$. I could never accept anything more.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help you can give.
