Hi there, my name is Danny Vasquez. I am really bad when it comes to asking for help, but here it goes. I am trying to raise funds for a laundry list of items including keeping my house, paying for my cats vet bills, and continued care for Jen's mom who has dementia and her cats .
Here is the story. I was unemployed for 14 months starting in August of 2024. While I had no income during that time, I had several issues arise.
In November of 2024, we started taking care of Jen's mom and her cats. She has dementia and was hospitalized for a few months so we were driving to her house 60 miles each way in LA traffic twice a day. This was over 240 miles a day, to help her and her cats, two of which need seizure medications multiple times a day. Her husband, Jen's dad, passed away a few years ago from cancer so we are the only care she has. According to the government, we do not qualify as caregivers that could be paid, and she lives off of social security as a retired public school teacher while still paying off a mortgage that she still owes over $200K on. As of February of this year, we were able to get it down to one visit a day, but between car repairs and gas, taking care of her cats, and emergency vet visits for those cats, this has run me over $40,000 to date. My 2023 Crosstrek, which had only 8,000 miles on it at the time, now has over 117,000+ miles and counting.
In July 2025, my upstairs neighbors also decided to flood my ceiling and destroy my kitchen. The flooding destroyed my ceiling and walls and spread black mold everywhere. The plumbers the HOA recommends we use even confirmed it was their fault for unauthorized upgrades/repairs. It took months and threatening to sue before they finally agreed to have their insurance company work with mine. Because of this, construction didn't start until October 2025, and what was supposed to be a 4-6 week project took 4 months to complete. This meant being out of a working kitchen and the ability to make anything that didn't need to be microwaved in the countertop microwave I had to buy for almost 7 months. During the renovation, two different teams handled my appliances, and somehow one of them broke my microwave and oven. Then the team measured wrong, and the space they had already completed construction on did not fit my fridge. I had to buy all new appliances that I was not reimbursed for because neither team would take responsibility, and there is no way to know who broke what. After trying to get as much reimbursed from the insurance company as possible, I was still out of over $16,000 for the repairs.
Then my cats, BattleCat and HeMan, had several vet visits as well. To make matters worse, BattleCat has been diagnosed with pancreatitis and kidney disease. Their vet visits have run me over $2,200 so far, and BattleCat is going back in for more blood work, urinalysis, and an ultrasound as her health is declining.
None of this includes Jen's medical issues over the past year which led to her recent hysterectomy, us being displaced due to the fires in January 2025 but because the condo was one block outside the "official" get out of town zone I don't qualify for reimbursement for the 5 days we were in a hotel, or the new washer and dryer I just had to purchase because the old unit broke pouring water all over the floor and it was cheaper to buy a new unit than repair it.
And while I was able to gain employment again in October 2025, because of all the above, I no longer have the means to pay my mortgage, the recurring vet bills, and continued care for Jen's mom and her cats. I am running $2,500+ in the red each month. I am trying to raise funds for the items listed below:
- To not lose my house, or in a more likely scenario, allow us some additional time to get everything organized so I can sell my place when the market is in a better position. I am currently positioned to sell my place and be underwater due to the market tanking and me only being here 3 years. I have been told by a realtor to try and hold onto the place if I can because it would be near impossible to sell right now.
- Pay for continued vet care of my cats as this will now be an ongoing cost with BattleCat being 16 and her pancreatitis and kidney disease. She has more tests coming up in a few days.
- Continued care for Jen's mom and her cats.
I don't like being in this position. I have tried to mitigate it by selling most of my collections of movie posters and toys to pay for this, but I am still coming up short. I also have receipts as proof if any of this is needed including: bank statements, downloads of gas/car repair costs from my credit card, direct deposit reimbursements from the insurance company for the kitchen, vet bills, etc...
Any help would be immensely appreciated.
