On March 10th, my parents, Danny and Janis Burress, were involved in a devastating motorcycle accident that left both of them in the ICU at St. John's Hospital. They are just two doors down from each other, each facing a long and difficult road to recovery. Both sustained multiple fractures along the left side of their bodies. My mom has already undergone surgery to clean a leg wound and is scheduled for more procedures to repair fractures in her foot, femur, arm, pelvis, and hip. Despite everything, she remains in good spirits and is fighting hard every day.

My dad's injuries are even more severe. He had to have his leg amputated above the knee and is still not stable. He is on a ventilator due to rib fractures that punctured his lung, and he has multiple drain tubes to help him breathe. His pelvis, hip, arm, hand, jaw, eye socket, skull, nose, and ribs are all broken. For someone who is 71 and already so broken, it’s a tremendous amount of trauma all at once. Still, in true Danny style, he’s surrounded by family and friends who have taken over the ICU waiting room, showing just how loved they are.

Danny and Janis have been married for 53 years, high school sweethearts who have always been there for each other and for everyone around them. Now, they need our help more than ever. The funds raised will go directly toward providing the home health care and round-the-clock support they will need as they recover from these life-changing injuries.
