Over a decade ago, in Mexico’s wine country, I met Danny ... a soul as rare and precious as the finest vintage. My friend and I were stranded, with a dead phone and no way to find our Airbnb. Danny,

managing the winery, didn’t hesitate. She closed up, drove my car all the way to Ensenada so we could charge our phone, and then drove us back through the night to make sure we were safe.

That’s Danny ... selfless, kind, and endlessly giving, even though she herself relies on public transportation to get through her daily life.

Since that day, Danny has become a dear friend. I’ve seen how tirelessly she works as an event planner, therapist, and at wineries, always giving more than she receives. In Mexico, even with 12-hour shifts, some people earn less than $20 a day ... far less than minimum wage in the U.S. Raising money for surgery is daunting, nearly impossible, no matter how hard she hustles with side gigs.

Now, Danny has been told she needs urgent surgery on her uterus, and she has only has a small window to get it done. I’ve never created a GoFundMe before, but Danny is the kind of person who restores your faith in community.
