Help Danny defeat cancer!

It was Tuesday, December 7th, that was the day my family and I knew that our lives were about to change forever. On that day, my son Daniel - affectionally known to family and friends as Danny, would discover he had a brain tumor. Despite being healthy, hardworking, and only in his mid- 30’s, the grave diagnosis we received that morning shook our family to the core.

 

Just weeks prior, Danny had complained about headaches and overall pain in his head. Fortunately, he followed his instinct and sought medical attention. After MRI and CT imagining confirmed the existence of the tumor, the next step was to have a biopsy to determine if it was benign or malignant.

After undergoing the biopsy and a brief stay at the hospital, the pathology report confirmed what Doctors had suspected, Danny has brain cancer.

 

As you can imagine, this unexpected diagnosis has presented Danny and our family a set of challenges we must overcome.

 

The first and most important is beating cancer! Danny is optimistic and has faith that he will defeat cancer and live to see his two beautiful and talented children (Daniel Jr. and Amara) grow to live out their true potential. Additionally, as a chef by profession, we know that he will fight extra hard to one day fulfill his lifelong dream of opening his own restaurant. Because the tumor is located in the center of his brain, surgery is not an option and it must be treated with a combination of chemotherapy and radiation.

To prepare for this fight Danny is committed to adhering to the advice from his medical team, revising his diet and seeking all available treatment options to help him overcome cancer.

 

Despite our optimism, the reality that this situation has left us with are undeniable. The cost associated with treatment is expected to be in the hundreds of thousands. Although he has health insurance, there are numerous costs to account for- some which are covered by insurance and others that are not.

Some of those expenses include, but is not limited to his health insurance deductible, co-pays, cost of medication, radiation treatment, labs, imaging, transportation to and from appointments, dietary needs, etc. The weight of these mounting expenses will only be made worse by the impact the treatment is expected to have on his body. His doctors have informed him that the medication and treatment are expected to make him fatigue which could result in missed time from work.

 

In an effort to prepare for the mounting expenses that will ensue, Danny has authorized that I create this GoFundMe account to raise funds to help with the cost of his treatment and offset any loss of income due to missing work.
