In late July, Danny Marschall, a senior at Mentor High, and his mom, Marie, were on vacation in Washington D.C. when Danny started having abdominal pain. Before long, he noticed his eyes and skin were a little yellow. After multiple doctor appointments with no solid answers, worsening jaundice, and increasing liver labs, Marie brought Danny to the ER at Rainbow in search of answers on Friday August 22nd.

Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) was the answer they received. After an MRCP showed abnormalities of his bile duct, an ERCP confirmed it. Inflammation and scarring of the bile ducts cause them to narrow, blocking bile from moving through the ducts appropriately. PSC is rare, and a progressive disease with no cure. It could eventually lead to the need for a liver transplant. Danny is still admitted, and has undergone 2 more ERCPs to place biliary stents. They are currently waiting to see if the most recent attempt was successful.

Marie has spent the last 2 weeks at the hospital by Danny's side. Even after he is discharged, we know there will be continued appointments and procedures. Marie has been my best friend for over 30 years. She is not one to ask for help, and is always willing to help others, but with her and Danny's approval, I am starting this GoFundMe with the hopes of relieving some of the financial burden that they have already, and will continue to, accrue, as they manage Danny's PSC diagnosis.
