Help Daniela Access Life-Saving Eating Disorder Treatment

Over the course of 10 years, Daniela has been battling two eating disorders called Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and Anorexia Nervosa. Although Daniela has fought a good fight these past few years and has not given up, she is no longer able to battle these disorders at home as her life is in imminent danger. Daniela has never been able to access treatment for her eating disorders due to systematic barriers within the healthcare system. There was no eating disorder support that took Texas Medicaid near her in her youth, and now there is a lack of providers in New Mexico to support her extensive healthcare needs.

We’ve applied for an eating disorder scholarship which could’ve helped with travel and medical expenses, but unfortunately there’s not enough funds available to support her through treatment at this time. After countless assessments with eating disorder clinics across the USA, and a long and hard battle with the insurance company, we were able to get them to cover emergency inpatient treatment out of state for eating disorder medical stabilization at a clinic in California. They are willing to work with us through a single case agreement due to lack of participating providers within our insurance network, but we will still have to cover a large portion of the medical expenses.

God willing, Daniela will be able to start treatment in August, but we need help getting Daniela out to California for treatment. Due to the severity of her disorder, Dani has been unable to hold a job for the past few months since her symptoms are so severe and as a result, we’ve been going through some financial hardship.
