UPDATE:  9/13/21-DAN'S VIDEO POST ON HIS ROAD TO RECOVERY FROM HIS STEM CELL TRANSPLANT...ENJOY THE VIDEO!

Hello, Leonor Varhol here.  When someone you love so dearly becomes ill, there is nothing worse than that feeling of helplessness.   Myself along with the rest of my family have arranged this gofundme campaign to help my dear Brother Daniel Ramos.  Dan was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) the beginning of this February during his routine yearly physical.  Danny had been run down for quite some time, but those of you who KNOW Danny knows, he just keeps pushing himself to get things done burning the candle at both ends.  However, Danny knew something was terribly wrong when he tried taking his young daughter sledding and could barely walk back up without feeling like his heart was about to explode.

A few days after that, he had a massive nosebleed that wouldn't stop. It was at his physical that Danny mentioned these things to his Dr.  So X-rays and bloodwork were done and just like that.... life stopped and his (& our) world flipped upside down.  Danny drove himself right then and there to Boston per Dr.'s orders, and immediately began Chemotherapy treatment at Brigham and Women's hospital... alone and isolated.    His white blood cell count was so high (50.000) with very little red blood cells left, he was a ticking time bomb for a stroke.

During his stay at Brigham, he had to have his bone marrow tested and a whole host of other tests were done....It has now been a little over a month, and although the Chemo treatment is helping, they have discovered that Danny has a mutated T-Cell, which makes his Leukemia aggressive and a little more difficult to treat.  Needless to say, Danny will need a  Bone Marrow Transplant.  Lidia and I are his sisters, which is the best case scenario for donors at this time, however testing still needs to take place to see if we are a match.

The good news is, Danny was able to return home last Wednesday to be with his family and is taking the Chemo treatments well.  He is on a special Chemo pill to target the mutated cell, and his red blood count is climbing back up.  Danny is in overall good spirits and maintains a positive outlook and has placed full confidence in the team of Doctors who are not just looking to treat his Leukemia, but rather, they say they are going to cure it!  We are all praying that this is the case and Danny's positive attitude has made this easier for us to cope with.

The road ahead is long, and there is still so much that Danny will be having to go through.  Doctors are saying it will be at least a year if not more on this roller coaster ride to recovery.  We can't even imagine Danny having to lay low that long...but he doesn't have a choice, although we know he is cherishing every single second of every day with his beautiful little girl and his wonderful supportive wife during this difficult time.  This also means that Danny will be out of work for a very long time , which will add to the challenges that he is facing.

We know from the bottom of our hearts that we can count on our family and friends to lend support in this time of need... to lighten the load and help lessen the burden during this unpresented time in our lives.  We love you all, and we know your prayers and generous heart always come through for our family.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts...and may the Almighty God and Father bless you all.
