My name is Edwin. I am requesting help for my older brother, Daniel N. Regua, who was recently diagnosed with cancer of his left lung, and now it has spread to his bones.
He moved to South Korea in 1995 to teach English through the Seventh-day Adventist Language Institute. It was there where he met his lovely wife, Olive, who is from Jeju (Cheju) Island. They raised two children, Junior and Joshua. Both of them are now serving their mandatory military duty.
Over the years, Daniel worked hard to save for retirement and tried to be financially responsible. But life had other plans. In 2017, he had a heart attack. That same year, he began suffering from gout and was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. In 2018, he was diagnosed with a chronic stomach infection (Helicobacter pylori). Despite his health struggles, both he and his wife, Olive, opened their own small English academy in 2019. In 2020, he caught COVID-19 and was hospitalized for two weeks.
Just when they thought things might improve, in June 2025, my brother Daniel was diagnosed with cancer that has metastasized. It has spread throughout his body and he has been hospitalized since then. He may face indefinite hospitalization, and possibly, end-of-life hospice care.
Both Daniel and his wife, Olive, decided to close their English school. Sadly, all of their retirement savings were used up through the years of medical expenses and they are now in debt. That is why I am soliciting for your prayers and kokua or help. There is no set donation goal because the reality of the situation is that Daniel will continue to fight this cancer as long as he can.
Donations will go toward hospital costs, scans like MRI, PET/CT, bone marrow biopsies, hospice care, etc. Whether you are able to pray, give, or simply share this story, we, Daniel, Olive, my mom, Mina, and I, thank you. Your kindness and support mean more than both Daniel and Olive can express. Mahalo and God bless.
Sincerely,
Edwin J. Regua
