Help keep Daniel moving with new technology
Donation protected
My brother Daniel's Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis is past the point where he needed a wheelchair. Now, he can now no longer safely use his hands to control his power wheelchair. I am hoping that others will join me in making a difference for him, by assisting with the purchase of equipment to keep him moving. Because Daniel is on disability funding, and income would clawed back, I will manage the fundraising in my name, and top up what's left of the full amount, then purchase the equipment, and gift it to him.
Daniel's words (though he rarely complains)
"At the time of my diagnosis, I was working two full-time jobs; now I can no longer safely use my hands to control my power chair. It won't be long until use of my chair is lost to me, completely. At that point, I will be stuck, waiting for others to assist, with absolutely everything.
Every day, I wake up with the full knowledge and acceptance that I am the weakest I've ever been."
While Daniel has dealt with this disease with impeccable grace, the loss and grief is in all of our hearts. At this time, our hope for his quality of life is in technology.
As there is no public funding for this, Daniel has requested my help to purchase a Switch-It® Vigo Head Drive Kit, so that he can continue to use his power wheelchair, using head movements. Because the strength of Daniel's lungs have been impacted by the disease as well, lower-cost tech, using breath-control, isn’t a fit for him.
This tech will reopen the world and enable Daniel to maneuver his chair at home, and outside. He will be able to interface with his electronic devices, have easier contact with others, enjoy the entertainment of his choosing, and call for assistance if he needs it. He may also get back to creating graphic art and pursuing vocal performance- activities he enjoys so much.
The cost is $6000. Daniel's disability income is low, and fixed. I have indicated to him that we are going to get this gear somehow. And I'm asking if there are others who wish to help out.
If you can help, even a little, it would mean a lot!
Thank you!
Fay, and Daniel.
