Hi, my name is Trisha Schock, and I’m raising funds for my brother, Daniel Schock.

Daniel is one of the strongest, most stubbornly determined people I know — and right now, he’s facing the fight of his life. After beating melanoma once, it has returned aggressively, spreading to his liver, lung, stomach, and lymph nodes. His medical team believes now is the time for an intensive, newly FDA-approved treatment called TIL Therapy, which could give him his best chance at beating this cancer.

Daniel’s Journey

In January 2021, Daniel was diagnosed with melanoma. Surgeons removed the cancer from his arm and lymph nodes in his armpit, and for nearly three years, he proudly lived “NED” — no evidence of disease.

On December 31, 2024, everything changed. The melanoma had returned — this time to his liver, lung, stomach, and lymph nodes (one tumor the size of a grapefruit near his pancreas).

Daniel’s care team at Fred Hutch in Seattle and Kadlec Cancer Center in the Tri-Cities quickly joined forces. The plan: 4 rounds of double immunotherapy (Opdivo + Yervoy), followed by single immunotherapy.

By April 2025, after 3 rounds, Daniel faced a terrifying complication — encephalitis (inflammation in the brain). It caused debilitating headaches, vision problems, confusion, balance issues, and cognitive challenges. Immunotherapy was paused while doctors started high-dose steroids to protect his brain.

In the middle of this crisis came a miracle: scans showed that the cancer had shrunk dramatically — leaving only one spot in his stomach.

But side effects continued. By May, Daniel developed severe neuropathy — numbness, tingling, and shooting pain in his feet, legs, arm, and hand. Then in June, scans showed the cancer had started growing again in his liver.

Because the side effects of immunotherapy have been so severe, Daniel’s doctor at Fred Hutch believes now is the time for TIL Therapy — a newly FDA-approved, groundbreaking treatment that could give him the best chance of long-term survival.

Surgery to remove part of Daniel’s stomach tumor

Growing billions of his own cancer-fighting T-cells over 6 weeks in a lab

A two-week ICU stay: one week of chemo to wipe out his immune system, followed by the infusion of T-cells and immunotherapy

Four more weeks in the Seattle area for close monitoring, with a full-time caregiver
