My dad, Daniel Dreher, was recently diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer—a diagnosis that has completely upended our family.

Just at the end of March, he and Lorna returned to Asia, where they have been serving since 2014. They were preparing to continue their missionary work, caring for others through health education, Bible storytelling, and ministry. Dad had had a lingering cough so they sought medical care. What initially seemed minor quickly turned into a devastating diagnosis: metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung (likely influenced in part by 18 years of secondhand smoke exposure during childhood). He has been hospitalized for two weeks and underwent surgery, as well as a pleurodesis procedure due to fluid buildup around his lungs. Doctors have discovered the cancer has spread to both lungs and beyond and is not operable.

As they are retired and rely on limited income—using their missionary support strictly for ministry work—the financial strain is already growing. Medical expenses have reached approximately $6,000 USD so far, with more costs expected for ongoing treatment and care.

My dad has spent years helping others with their health, even supporting many facing cancer; now he is facing this battle himself. During this difficult time, we want him to be able to focus on his health and time with loved ones—not financial stress.
