Hi, my name is Chikako, and I'm reaching out on behalf of my dear friends, Daniel and Debbie—two of the most selfless, resilient, and kind-hearted people I know.

In September 2024, Daniel experienced a heart attack that turned their world upside down. He ended up needing five bypass surgeries—a massive undertaking that marked the beginning of a long road to recovery.

But that was just the start.

Soon after, complications led to surgery that resulted in a partial foot amputation. A second surgery followed, which removed more bone and left his foot even shorter, making daily mobility even harder.

Daniel spent four and a half months in the hospital, most of it in a city nearly two hours away from home. Debbie, his wife and caregiver, temporarily relocated to that city to be by his side. As the stay grew longer and costs began to rise, she started driving back and forth regularly, delivering meals and support while also trying to hold everything else together.

Though Daniel is now home, he’s still not out of the woods. He’s been battling a severe and persistent bone infection for almost five months. The pain is constant. He remains mostly confined to home and on long-term antibiotic therapy.

Before this, Daniel was a beloved chef who ran a food truck with Debbie, not just serving food, but serving the community. He taught cooking to high school students facing challenges, provided jobs to homeless individuals, and donated countless meals to firefighters, police officers, city staff, and many more. Giving was part of his daily life.

Now, because of his health, he’s had to shut down the food truck he loved so much.

And Debbie, who has been his rock throughout, is now juggling multiple jobs, running her own business, and caring for Daniel around the clock.

They are doing everything they can—but they can’t do it alone.
