A Henderson County family needs your help as they mourn the loss of their infant daughter. Grace Elizabeth Martin both unexpectedly, and emergently, entered this world on April 28th at 1:57am. Grace immediately displayed her strength. Weighing only 1 pound and 11 ounces, this beautiful baby girl fought with all of her might to survive after being born at only 25 weeks. Sadly, about ten hours later, Grace lost her fight on this earth. At 12:12PM, Grace Elizabeth Martin gained her wings as she went on to be with the Lord. Daniel and Mary lost a beautiful daughter and Noah, Millie, Jacob, and Wade lost a little sister that they couldn’t wait to play with.

While 25 weeks seems like such a short amount of time, for Daniel and Mary it felt like an eternity. Early on during their pregnancy they suspected that something was not right. They prayed as they worked with doctors searching for the answers. They discovered that Mary and Baby Grace were experiencing a placental abruption. Placental abruption occurs when the placenta separates from the inner wall of the uterus before birth. Placental abruption can deprive the baby of oxygen and nutrients and cause heavy bleeding in the mother.

Danny, Mary and the children loved Grace every second of every day during the last 25 weeks. Mary continued teaching her wonderful kindergarten students at Lincoln Elementary as long as she could until she was placed on bed rest. Daniel worked hard protecting others as a law enforcement officer with Henderson County Sheriffs Department. These two selfless individuals, even during this stressful time, continued teaching, serving, and protecting others in their community as they depleted both their sick and personal time with their employers. Now, it is time to give back to them.

After many weeks of missing work due to bed rest, high risk doctor appointments, multiple emergency room visits, and hospital stays Daniel and Mary have missed many days of work causing them hardship and stress. With the medical bills piling up, they now must also begin planning, and financing, the funeral of their beautiful baby girl that left this world entirely too soon. No one should ever have to experience such a tragic loss. Furthermore, they should especially not have to deal with the heavy burden of the costs of the medical bills, funeral expenses, and travel expenses as they went back and forth to appointments and emergency room visits.
