Here is his story...
Our brother, Danian (whose elder Hmong name is Npla Ntxoov Vaaj), is the kindest and hardest working person we know. He has always been a positive force, go-getter, and always the first to help anyone in need. He loves his large family and his church. This year, he went from a healthy father of seven, to a Covid patient, to a cancer patient.
Danian and his family tested positive for Covid in early February of 2021. He had chest pain, body aches, fever, and nausea. While the rest of the family recovered, Danian continued to feel nauseous with chest pain and shoulder pain. He went back to work 3 weeks after being home because he is the sole breadwinner for his family. However, the nausea and shoulder pain was relentless so his doctor ordered some tests to see if the issue was Covid related or something else.
A CT scan in March showed that there were many small nodules in his lungs. The scan also happened to get an image of Danian’s upper liver which showed two masses. A biopsy was performed on the liver mass in early April that confirmed cancer, but not liver cancer. After many phone calls to schedule and wait for an appointment, a PET scan was performed in early May which showed that the aggressive cancer had metastasized and spread to not only in his lungs and liver, but also in his throat and lymph nodes.
Prior to Covid, Danian was perfectly healthy. He loved playing golf with his buddies, having date nights with his wife, hiking, and playing volleyball with his seven kids who range in age from 6 to 25. Danian loves to joke about the time he had jury duty and the judge asked why he should be dismissed... his response was that he needed to work because he has seven kids! The packed courtroom wowed and the judge immediately released him. He has and continues to work so hard for his family.
Our family is devastated, but hopeful. Danian has not been able to work since his stage 4 cancer diagnosis due to the excruciating pain from his right shoulder to his side. He has lost considerable weight because his liver hurts every time he eats. His wife has been by his side taking care of him while navigating the medical minefield of cancer.
We ask for your support in helping our brother and his family. Any donations will go directly to the family for medical and living expenses while he goes through treatment.
More than anything though, Danian needs your support and encouragement as he begins chemotherapy on May 14th. We will do our best to keep you updated on his journey and appreciate everyone's heartfelt thoughts and prayers.
