Help Dani Fight a Cancerous Brain Tumor and Support Her Children
In the early morning hours on October 19th, Dani experienced a sudden seizure in front of her three children that lasted nearly 45 terrifying seconds. She was rushed by ambulance to San Antonio Hospital, where doctors began urgently searching for the cause. The next day, a CT scan revealed a mass in her right frontal lobe. An MRI with contrast confirmed our worst fear—a low-grade glioma, a type of brain tumor.
What is a glioma?
A glioma is a cancerous brain tumor that forms in the glial cells, which are responsible for protecting and supporting the brain’s nerves. These tumors grow inside the brain itself, making them extremely difficult and risky to remove because they are intertwined with healthy brain tissue. Depending on their location, gliomas can impact speech, movement, memory, personality, and even basic bodily functions. Treatments often include brain surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy—many times over—because these tumors frequently return. Each step of the journey is not only physically exhausting, but also incredibly expensive.
Urgent Medical & Financial Challenges
Dani has recently gone through major life changes and did not have stable insurance coverage. She is now on a Covered California plan, which is not fully accepted by the specialists she urgently needs.
On October 21, she was transferred to UCLA’s Neurosurgery Department for advanced evaluation. After waiting all night for a room, she finally underwent a functional MRI—a critical scan that maps the areas of the brain responsible for speech, movement, and memory. This scan helps surgeons determine how to operate while protecting vital brain functions.
Despite the seriousness of her diagnosis, Dani was discharged shortly after due to insurance limitations, not medical readiness. UCLA only accepts PPO insurance plans, meaning she cannot continue care there unless she secures costly PPO coverage on her own. She is now being directed to Loma Linda, the closest facility that accepts her current insurance, while also being told she must return for follow-up within 1–2 weeks.
