Help Dani & Abhi recover from a devastating fire

Dear friends,

On the night of December 13th, thirty minutes before they were to be asleep, Dani and Abhi investigated an unusual popping sound in the back office of their home to discover the room engulfed by a fire. They quickly moved to extinguish it, but only moments from success, fire took the room. They moved to grab their dog Arlo, what few items they could, and knocked on every neighbor’s door they could to spare further tragedy. We are all unspeakably grateful that Dani, Abhi, and Arlo made it outside with their lives and no one else in the building was harmed. Unfortunately, despite the fast efforts of the NYFD, their home was largely destroyed. What’s left remains covered in soot and water. From clothes to work equipment to irreplaceable photos and documents, it’s all gone.

This was their home, owned and recently renovated by them. While they have homeowner’s insurance, due to loopholes in their co-op insurance and insurance adjusters fighting to pay as little as possible, there is sure to be a significant gap.

A week before Christmas, it’s all we can do but reach out to those that love Dani and Abhi and ask for support on their behalf. They are likely displaced for close to a year. Please help them get back on their feet and start the new year with a chance to rebuild.
