On Christmas Day, Danette Bulson woke up in severe pain—but like many moms do, she put herself last.

She pushed through the pain so she could be present with her three children and spend Christmas together as a family. By the end of the day, the pain became unbearable, and she knew something was seriously wrong.

Danette went to the emergency room, where doctors discovered that her intestine had ruptured. She was rushed into emergency surgery and underwent a laparoscopic hand-assisted sigmoidectomy with a Hartmann’s procedure and end colostomy. The news was overwhelming and life-changing. Danette is expected to remain hospitalized for at least five days, followed by a long and difficult recovery at home.

Danette is a single mom of three, a devoted caregiver who works long hours caring for others, and a woman of deep faith. She loves God, is actively involved in her church, and lives her life centered around family, service, and compassion. Her entire world revolves around her children and is Christ centered, she has always been the one showing up for everyone else. Now, she’s the one who needs support.

This unexpected medical emergency has turned her life upside down—not only physically and emotionally, but financially as well. Between surgery, hospitalization, ongoing medical care, and the supplies and support she’ll need while adjusting to life after surgery, the costs are quickly adding up.
