Hello, my name is Diane, the aunt of Kim Znika. Danek & Kim along with their 6 kids & dog are homeless after a devastating house fire yesterday (11/2).
For the rest, I'll use Danek's update to family who've been contacting them.
Danek's words:
Our home burned down. I was at a family gathering with my wife and six kids when I got a text from an unknown number that my home was on fire. Shortly after, my neighbor called and broke the news to me. My wife and I sped home to find multiple first responder trucks, flashing lights, and uniforms everywhere. Neighbors standing up and down the block.
We know things could be replaced, but our family dog Maverick was who we were most worried about. The fire department had blocked the street, so we parked and ran what seemed like a football field to find our home completely blackened and smoldering. The firefighters said they had not located our Maverick yet. He’s not usually crated while we’re gone, but he is confined to the foyer by two retractable gates at the stairs. We stood by anxiously while the firefighters hosed our home down. Finally, they emerged with his crate. He had jumped the gate and found his safe place in his crate, which we kept in the basement. He was alive and safe, thank God.
Now we are homeless with six kids and a dog. A thin layer of tar and ash on just about everything we own. What we didn’t realize about fires was the water damage sustained to put them out. Things we thought we could salvage are ruined. We lost so much in the fire, but we are reminded that it could have happened in the middle of the night and been so much worse. We have been blessed in this way and with so many friends, family, and strangers reaching out.
So many people want to help, but it’s so early now that we don’t know what we don’t know. If you’d like to help in some way, a donation on here will help in so many ways. Any little bit will help us navigate the next few months. Thank you!
