Help Daneika and Her 7 Year Old Daughter Rebuild After Hurricane Melissa

Hurricane Melissa devastated many families in Jamaica. Entire communities are struggling without homes, food, or clean water. We wish we could help everyone, but we’re starting with one family we know personally, because we can guarantee that every penny raised will go directly to them.

I’m writing this on behalf of Jade. Daneika is Jade’s sister, and Jade is her main point of contact in the UK. Our family is doing everything we can, but the destruction is overwhelming. This fundraiser is our way of making sure Daneika and her little girl get immediate help.

Jade was born in Jamaica and moved to the UK in May 2023. She remains closely connected with her family back home, and when the hurricane hit on 20th October, she didn’t hear from them until 29th October. Those nine days were agonising. Since then, communication has been sporadic, only when Daneika can get a signal.

When Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica, it left unimaginable destruction across the island. Hanover, where Daneika and her 7 year old daughter live, was one of the hardest hit areas. In just a few hours, their entire world collapsed.

Their home was completely destroyed. Furniture, clothes, food - everything gone. Daneika was a small farmer who raised chickens and pigs to provide for her family and community. The hurricane wiped out her animals, her crops, and her only source of income. What was once a place of life and hope is now rubble and mud.

The hardest part for Daneika is seeing her little girl suffer. She has no bed to sleep in, no clean clothes, and often no food. Nights are the worst - no electricity, no safe shelter, and a child crying because the darkness feels endless. Even water, something so basic, is now a desperate challenge. The river they relied on is contaminated with debris and dead animals.

They are cut off from the outside world. Roads are blocked, power lines are down, and the entire community is struggling to survive with what little they have left.

This is a deeply vulnerable moment for Daneika and her daughter. Sharing these photos was not easy, it puts their life on display, but they gave permission because the situation is urgent. This is about survival, and we want people to see the reality they are facing.
