Hi, my name is Dane, and I’m 54 years old. I was diagnosed in 2018 with Cirrhosis of the liver, and life has become a daily challenge as my health continues to decline.

As of right now MELD score is 23, which means my liver is in serious condition. I’m currently on the transplant list and hoping for a second chance at life. Every week, I go into the hospital to have 5 to 8 liters or more of ascites drained from my abdomen due to liver failure. After each procedure, I need an albumin infusion to help my body recover. I often feel exhausted, winded, and struggle with brain fog, which makes even simple tasks difficult.

 I’m married to an amazing woman — my rock — who works full-time from home as a billing supervisor while also taking care of me and our home. We have a 15-year-old son, a high-school sophomore, a football lineman, a wrestler, and track athlete, who means the world to us. I try my best to be there for him, but fatigue often makes it hard to attend his events.

 We live in Oregon, and my transplant care is through the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, about 4½ hours away. The travel, housing, and medical costs are adding up quickly. We have recently decided due to my decline in health, we will start the process of going through different transplant centers in California, Arizona and Utah. This will help me get on multiple transplant lists, so I can get a liver sooner before my kidneys start to fail.

 I’m hoping to raise $10,000 to help with medical bills, travel, and home needs during this difficult time. Any amount truly helps and means more than words can say.
