After spending four months on workers compensation and another four months on short-term disability, I was let go from my job on January 30 due to my disability. My last paycheck was in December, and since then, it’s just been me and my cat, Lucie, trying to manage everything on our own.

Because of my disability, I can no longer get up and down the stairs to my third-floor apartment. I’m in the process of moving to a first-floor unit so I can live more safely and independently. On top of that, my car was stolen in May, making it even harder to get by. This transition comes with a lot of unexpected expenses—rent, transfer fees, food, and bills—that I’m struggling to cover while I search for new opportunities and adjust to these changes.
