My son, Dana Scarberry, is 36 and the father of two amazing kids who are his life. His son is special needs and really needs his father right now!! Dana was in an ATV accident on January 1st when riding with his girlfriend and family. His amazing girlfriend, with whom he lived with his two kids and her four kids, was killed in the tragic accident. Dana was airlifted to HCA Ocala Trauma Hospital where they did immediate surgery and told us he had no brain function and we should decide what to do within the next 2 days. I told them to do anything they could to save his life because we weren't giving up and I knew how stubborn Dana was and he is a fighter. He proved them wrong! Although in a coma for 4 months, he is slowly recovering from all of his injuries. He still has a traumatic brain injury and subsequently had a stroke, so we don't know how much he will recover but he is FIGHTING!! In April, he was at Brooks Rehab and made great progress but due to the length of time in the coma, he has lost a huge amount of muscle mass and his brain is slowly trying to recover. He still is learning to sit up by himself, then walk, and then talk! He has a long way to go but we are doing it! I say WE because he has a lot of people praying for him. I NEVER ask for support because my entire life I have supported everyone else. It's very humbling for me but I am asking for my son. I want him to have the best chance possible to get back to being a normal father with his kids who are 10 and 8 and had to move to Georgia due to his accident. We miss them terribly and I will do and give anything to make that happen. He needs a lot of support that insurance just won't cover. Our biggest turtle right now to his recovery is Transportation to get him to and from his doctor visits and therapy appointments since he is still wheelchair bound. Transportation can be up to $250 a visit if we can’t arrange the appointment around local government, transportation. Any donations will go directly to his care. If you read this entire post, THANK YOU! If you can't personally donate, please share this post for my son and his kids.
