My name is Dana, and I’m reaching out during a challenging time in my life. I have interstitial cystitis, which recently led to a severe UTI. After several rounds of antibiotics didn’t work, a coworker at the hospital where I work encouraged me to go to the emergency room. There, doctors discovered E. coli in my bladder and ESBL—a serious, life-threatening bacteria. The infection spread to my kidneys and other organs, and I was admitted to the hospital for a week on IV antibiotics.
Now, I’m being discharged home with home infusion IV medications. Unfortunately, my home infusions for the IV antibiotics are not covered by insurance, which has added a significant financial burden. The past few weeks have been filled with ER visits, urgent care appointments, scans (MRIs, CTs, ultrasounds), and many medications. I’ve had a midline inserted and have undergone multiple tests and procedures. The medical bills are adding up quickly, and I’m doing my best to manage them while also keeping up with tuition for my doctorate program, rent, groceries, and everyday expenses.
I’m not someone who usually asks for help, but I’m determined to get better and continue moving forward. I’m grateful for any support—whether it’s sharing my fundraiser, donating, or sending words of encouragement. Your kindness will help me focus on healing and getting back to the life I love. Thank you for being here and for considering a helping hand.
