Handicap Van for Dana
Donation protected
For those who don't know Dana personally, I hope one day you will have a chance to meet her. For those who do know Dana know she is a beautiful 11 year old girl who was born in Inner Mongolia, China. She was born with Spina Bifida which caused her to be paralyzed from the waist down. She also had a shunt placed in her head as a baby to drain excess fluid from her brain, suffers from seizures and chronic UTI infections.
Although Dana was born with all these medical issues she has not let this define her. She is a strong, brave, kind, and loving child of God. She was fearfully and wonderfully made. Her voice is like an angel. I was told the first 10 years of her life all she longed for was a family. Her dream came true!! Dana became a Campbell last year and has a wonderful dad, mom, and sister who love her very much. The Campbell's are a loving family who answered the call to adopt and traveled across the world to bring their daughter home.
Our family is the Smith family from Florida and we had the privilege of meeting Dana while we were in China adopting our son Nixon, or as many knew him as Zhi Xiong. Dana and Nixon have known each other since they were babies and grew up together in China. They have a special bond and our family as well as the Campbell family knew that we needed to keep it that way. Nixon and I were blessed to be able to travel to Oregon this past November to meet the Campbell family in person and reunite Dana and Nixon. The Campbell family welcomed us into their home with open arms for the weekend. It was an amazing trip filled with fun, laughter, and created memories that will never be forgotten. Who knew only about a month later their lives would be forever changed.
Dana was scheduled for a much needed surgery December 28 to fix some things with her urinary system. She was scheduled for a pre-op appointment Christmas Eve and woke up that morning with a headache, neck pain, and feeling groggy. The Campbell family traveled to the hospital and when they got there Dana had a seizure, so they were sent to the ER. While in the ER an MRI showed brain swelling so Dana was rushed to the OR for emergency surgery to fix the faulty shunt in her brain. While Dana was in surgery she had a full cardiac arrest and they had to stop the surgery. They were able to revive her and transferred her to the ICU where she had another cardiac arrest. She pulled through and was once again breathing. Tests have shown that Dana suffered severe brain damage from these episodes. She was placed on an oscillating machine to help her breathe. Her legs developed blood clots so she requires injections for 3 months. They put a tracheostomy in to help her to continue to breathe safely without the ventilator. She has an NG tube for her feedings to keep her nourished.
As you can see at this point Dana is in need of A LOT of care. She needs to be monitored 24 hours a day, not to mention the daily living care she will require. Initially the Campbell family was told they would be able to receive the "Fragile Children's Special care funding" which would help financially with Dana's ever growing medical bills and her future care. A few days ago they were told Dana would not be able to receive this because she doesn't have an Oregon birth certificate.
When you adopt from China your child becomes a US citizen with every right as you and I, but they don't get a birth certificate. You are able to go through the court system and obtain one for your child, but its expensive and more paperwork, time consuming, and usually not necessary for most things. In this case they are requiring it. This can take time (like months) that the Campbell's don't have.
Praise God they are talking about sending Dana home next week!! Can you imagine how much this family has been through, they haven't been home together since Christmas Eve. Emotions have been high not knowing if they would even be leaving the hospital with their sweet daughter. We don't know why things like this happen, we can ask all day long and sometimes we may never know. What we do know is that God isn't done with Dana here on this earth yet. She is still needed here and the world will still be blessed with her presence.
Let's work together to help the Campbell family go home as soon as Dana is medically released. Your financial help will go towards her 24 hour medical care and medical expenses accumulated. The Campbell family will also need to purchase a handicap van with a wheelchair ramp. Wouldn't this be an extra blessing to be able to provide enough funds for them to be able to have a vehicle to take Dana places she will need to go. Let's come together and bless this family in this very difficult time in their life. Thank you so much for your generous donations! I will personally be withdrawing the funds, then sending them to the Campbell family by check, outside of Go Fund Me. We sincerely appreciate your support.
There are many other ways to help as well if you live close by the Campbell's you can help with Dana's care, grocery shopping, meals for the family, etc.. and please don't forget to keep Praying. Not everyone can do everything, but everyone can do something! God is not finished with you sweet Dana.
