Help Dana fight this battle!

Hello Everyone!

My name is Lynn, and I am here asking for your help on behalf of my mother Dana Price who was recently Diagnosed with Stage 4 (Metastatic) Breast Carcinoma. This is the type that has travelled to her spine, ribs, and pelvic bones. It had destroyed her L1 and L2 vertebrae, requiring surgery to cement and cage the two together permanently.

December 22, 2021 my mother began having pain/spasms in her back. This became an ongoing issue for several weeks, and no one could give my parents a clear answer as to what was happening. Finally, they were able to find a hospital that would perform a CAT scan, and the news we received was shocking to say the least. On January 12th, what we thought had been caused by a pulled muscle had turned out to be caused by Breast Cancer.

January 21st, she was sent to Hamilton for her surgery(Percutaneous Intramedullary Fusion from T11 to L4, with Kyphoplasty of L1 & L2), which was a success!! This was our family’s first real spark of hope. She was returned to and is currently in, the care of an amazing medical team in the city closest to home. They are helping her to move, and will hopefully get her to a point where she can walk without the assistance of someone else, using walkers and such. It will take time and a lot of work, but we know she is incredibly strong(as well as stubborn).

For anyone who doesn’t know my mom, all of this has been life changing for her. Beyond the diagnosis of Cancer, what it has done to her body has all but taken away her hobbies and activities she loves to do. Dana is an avid gardener, baker, DIYer, and Bunny mom among other things. With the surgery to her spine, as well as the Cancer treatments she will be going through for a long time, she wont be able to do the things she loves for a while. My dad, Chris, has been by her side as much as he can through every step of the way. He took time off of work in the beginning when everything was at the scariest, and even now though he does go to work, he spends absolutely every second he can get with her.

The strength and pure love my parents have shown during everything has been inspiring to anyone who has seen it. With everything that has been happening, the steps back and the leaps forward, they have shown everyone what true support and love really are.

I am here, asking you for help because through all of this the last thing my parents need is financial stress. I want to remove this for them, and give them what they need to make sure that when she gets home from the hospital(TBD), mobility supports and other quality of life things are set up and ready to go for her. No amount is too little, and I have deliberately not set a large goal here because we don’t want anyone to feel pressured to help.
