Help Dana Fight Stage 4 Cancer and Make Memories with Emma

Introduction

Hi, I’m Michael Cahill, and I’m reaching out to support my dear friend, Dana Weyker. A few months ago, what started as routine appendix surgery turned into a life-altering diagnosis: stage 4 colon cancer. Dana’s now in the fight of his life, and I’m asking for your help to ease his burden and create precious moments with his daughter, Emma.

The Story

It began with significant pain that led Dana to the hospital. During surgery to remove his appendix, the doctor discovered a tumor-and more in his intestines. They removed what they could, including 3 feet of his intestines, but further tests revealed the devastating truth: stage 4 colon cancer. It’s spread to his lymph nodes, blood, and liver. Recently, Dana underwent emergency surgery for a blockage caused by a new tumor. His oncologist confirmed the presence of inoperable cancer and advised against further chemotherapy, recommending palliative care instead. It’s a challenging situation. The focus is on ensuring Dana’s comfort with proper medication. Despite surgery, chemotherapy, and a daily regimen of pills, Dana remains a warrior. He’s staying positive and has worked as long as he could, showing the incredible mental strength, I’ve admired in him for years.

Dana’s no stranger to hardship-losing his father young at a young age and his mother in his early twenties-but this battle is his toughest yet. Dana understands that his situation is grave. He has expressed where he wants his ashes spread and is comforted by the thought of being with his parents again. However, he is very alive today and is still battling. Through it all, he fights not just for himself, but for Emma, his daughter.

The Goal

We’re aiming to raise $19,000 to help Dana and Emma. The funds will go toward expenses, daily needs, and most importantly, experiences they can share-memories to hold onto, no matter what lies ahead. Every dollar will make their lives a little easier during this brutal fight.
