Help Dan Wimett after a terrible accident

My twin brother Daniel Wimett was severely injured this past Sunday, July 3. He was cutting up firewood when a log slipped out from under him causing him to fall and causing his leg to get trapped underneath several other logs crushing and shattering his tibia and requiring reconstructive surgery tomorrow.

My brother Dan has always been the kind of person you can give a call whenever you need help. Before he became a family man and one of the most dedicated providers to his family in every way possible, we used to refer to as “Dan gotta go Wimett”. This was because he was always on his way to help somebody. Whether they needed help with the manual labor task (often times ironically enough Dan is often the one helping people get their firewood split before winter). A farmer that needed last-second help with getting hay in before the weather rolled in, or just a stranger on the side of the road that looked like they need help. Dan doesn’t hesitate in the slightest to help anybody in need. I can’t tell you how many times over the last decade my brother has helped myself on a moment’s notice when somebody wasn’t able to come help me with personal care. My brother is the most selfless person I know and wears his heart on his sleeve.
Dan has probably 3 to 6 months of recovery ahead of him plus several months of physical therapy before he can return to work. He does have short-term disability but we are not sure what they will help with and my family and I can take an educated guess that Dan will still have thousands of dollars in co-pays and other medical expenses. Dan’s wife Jessica works, but she can only work part-time so that she is able to balance working taking care of their son Jacob (5) and Jessica’s two daughters Sara and Olivia (12 and 14).
I know times are tough for us all right now but I’m asking that if you’re willing to donate or if my brother has ever helped you with no questions asked and no need for compensation for his time, consider donating to him in his time of need. I know Dan and his family will appreciate any money we are able to raise.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Dan’s twin brother Ben, on behalf of my parents, Beth and David Wimett of Brandon, and my older siblings Jacob Wimett of South Royalton, Vermont, and Jessica Wimett of Keeseville, New York. If anybody would like to donate directly through other means, please get in touch with me at [phone redacted] or David Wimett at [phone redacted]. Donations can also be dropped off at my father’s business Wimett Trading Company [phone redacted].
