Help Dan Heal After His Double Lung Transplant
Dan O’Neil, A 63-year-old from Pikeville, Tennessee, recently underwent a life-saving double lung transplant at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.
As part of his recovery, Dan is required to stay within minutes of the hospital for the next three months so doctors can monitor him daily and adjust medications. Vanderbilt is 2.5 hours from his home, making it impossible for him to travel back and forth.
To recover safely, Dan must stay in temporary housing, and his full-time caregiver must stay with him, adding to the financial burden during this critical time.
Dan ran his own small business for years before his health declined. He had to close his business two years ago and has been living on a fixed income since. While insurance covered most of the surgery, it does not cover essential costs like:
Hotel or temporary housing near the hospital
Daily meals and groceries for two
Transportation expenses
Basic living and medical needs
Dan and his caregiver are now facing thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses just to comply with Vanderbilt’s recovery requirements.
Where Your Donations Will Go
We’ve set a fundraising goal of $12,000 to cover the essentials for Dan’s 3-month recovery period:
Hotel or extended stay housing ($100/night for 90 days)
Meals and groceries for Dan and his caregiver
Gas, parking, and short local travel to hospital for daily test and visits
Medications, supplies, and basic living costs
Every donation, large or small, will go directly to supporting Dan through this incredibly challenging time — making sure he has a safe, stable environment to heal in.
Dan is a kind, humble man who’s always worked hard and helped those around him. He’s not one to ask for anything, but right now, he truly needs our support. If you’ve ever met Dan, you know he’d give you the shirt off his back — now it’s our chance to help him breathe easy again.
Please consider donating or sharing this page. Your support means the world.
Thank you from Dan, his family, and all of us who love him.
