Help Dan fight motor neurone disease (MND)

Introduction:

Dan is a loving husband, father and friend who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in December 2019.

Dan began having symptoms in 2018 with frequent falls, slurring of speech and stiffness.

Dan underwent MRI scans, nerve conduction tests, a lumbar puncture, and blood tests and was diagnosed.

With motor neurone disease, known as MND, messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles. This leads the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste, which can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. Some people also get changes to their thinking and behavior, but the disease affects everyone differently. Not all symptoms will affect everyone or in the same order. Symptoms also progress at varying speeds, which makes the course of the disease difficult to predict.

MND is life-shortening and there is no cure.

Being young and with the disease affecting each person differently, Dan is unsure what his future looks like.

Dan is determined to fight MND and make the most of the time he has left with his family making memories, he is currently undergoing treatment and is working with a team of doctors and nurses to manage his symptoms.

Dan has managed to work until March 2023 and has now retired, Dan's speech is affected, legs and hands are at present. Dan is on NIV, and cough assistance and has amazing support from consultants, speech and language and nurses providing his care. Dan also receives amazing support from the Shakespeare Hospice and Myton Hospice which provide support to himself and his family.

What we are raising money for:

We are raising money to help Dan and his family with the cost of care and living expenses due to the rise in the cost of living and ongoing changes to Dan's health.

The money will be used for:

To support the cost of living and a wet room.
